About Me

WES BENSON

Hi guys! My name is Wes Benson, I'm an Oil Painter, among other things. I am deeply inspired by the world around me and seek to reproduce it in ways that make my paintings more appealing than reality. My work tends to be colorful, intended to be euphoric, and is primarily about light and form. I hold an MFA, or Master's degree, from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and a bachelor's degree in the History of Art from the University of Kansas.

My studio is in the Bauer Building, studio #202 in the Crossroads District of downtown Kansas City. My paintings have been shown at Weinberger Fine Art, The Greenlease gallery at Rockhurst University, The Leedy Voulkos Art Center, Leawood Fine Art, Eva Reynold's Fine Art and more...my illustrations have been on ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition , Women's health magazine, Dirt Rag mountain bike magazine, St Luke's hospital and more. I'm in recovery from drugs and alcohol. (Six years sober and loving life!) It's WONDERFUL to be sober and to return to yourself as I have. Much love to all of my sober brothers and sisters in recovery. I run an AA meeting and am very active within the recovery community.

If you google search "Wes Benson KCUR" you will find an interview with me hosted by NPR affiliate, Steve Kraske, of the radio show "Up to Date."I have been an Instructor at both the Kansas City Art Institute and Park University. My favorite artists are John Singer Sargent, David Hockney, Wayne Thiebaud, Alex Katz and Andrew Loomis, to name five. I have many favorites. Another interest of mine is paleontology. I've been digging up dinosaurs with the University of Kansas for a decade, and have been fortunate enough to have been featured on CBS Sunday Morning with Host, Martha Teichner, and in the astounding David Attenborough Documentary, "Dinosaurs, the Final Day," which features an unbelievable dinosaur site called Tanis.
